POPCAT has faced significant challenges since the beginning of February, as attempts at recovery have failed to materialize. Despite some price rallies, the meme coin has struggled to regain its losses, with a 48% drop weighing heavily on its performance. 

While the altcoin is still attempting a recovery, a lack of strong support and market optimism is causing delays in any significant rebound. But the meme coin did have a key bullish moment this week.

POPCAT Needs Investors’ Backing

The Chaikin Money Flow (CMF) indicator has remained stuck below the zero line for the past three and a half months. This suggests that inflows into POPCAT have been weak since early December 2024, with little buying interest. The lack of conviction due to fear of losses from investors has contributed to a lack of momentum, keeping the meme coin from experiencing a recovery.

The weak CMF reading signals that investors are not pouring money into POPCAT, which is preventing a meaningful price increase. This has led to the coin’s struggle to maintain any positive price action, further delaying the recovery. 

Technical indicators such as the Relative Strength Index (RSI) also reflect POPCAT’s struggle to find sustained momentum. The RSI has remained below the neutral line of 50.0 for the past three months, indicating weak bullish signals. This reinforces the notion that broader market cues are not supporting a strong recovery for the meme coin.

Without support from the broader market, POPCAT has found it difficult to break out of its current downtrend. Until the market improves, POPCAT is unlikely to break its bearish cycle.

POPCAT Price Is Likely Consolidating

Over the last four days, POPCAT has rallied nearly 20%, currently trading at $0.180. A key catalyst was Robinhood’s POPCAT listing on Thursday, which is expected to drive more investment into the asset and expose it to more investors.

The altcoin has bounced off the support level of $0.140 and is now under the resistance of $0.203. While this recent recovery is encouraging, it will face significant challenges in breaching the $0.203 barrier.

Given the weak market conditions and investor sentiment, POPCAT could struggle to break through the $0.203 resistance. It is more likely that the altcoin will consolidate within the range of $0.140 to $0.203, at least until stronger market cues emerge. This could delay any potential recovery further.

However, if market conditions and investor behavior improve, POPCAT may push past the $0.203 resistance. A successful breach of this level could see the altcoin test $0.238, invalidating the current bearish outlook. This would signal a shift in market sentiment and possibly set the stage for a more sustained recovery.

Changpeng “CZ” Zhao, former CEO of Binance, is advising Kyrgyzstan on becoming a crypto hub. He signed an agreement with the Kyrgyz National Investment Agency to build the nation’s Web3 capacities.

A cornerstone of this plan is Kyrgyzstan’s A7A5 stablecoin, pegged to the Russian ruble and focused on emerging markets. CZ claimed that he has been advising several governments “officially and unofficially” regarding crypto.

CZ Helps Kyrgyzstan Drive Crypto Adoption

Countries worldwide are becoming more interested in crypto integration lately. Although Kyrgyzstan has not been a particular hub for crypto activity, it is trying to turn a new leaf.

According to the latest announcements, the country is developing a new A7A5 stablecoin pegged to the Russian ruble. Kyrgyzstan’s crypto turn is also being influenced by Changpeng “CZ” Zhao, the founder of Binance.

“A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the National Investment Agency under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic and Changpeng Zhao (CZ). In accordance with the Memorandum, the parties intend to cooperate in the development of the cryptocurrency and blockchain technology ecosystem in the Kyrgyz Republic,” claimed President Sadyr Zhaparov.

CZ is a very influential figure in crypto and has been involved with a few official governments in his career. For example, last month, allegations surfaced that he was working with President Trump to establish a new dollar-backed stablecoin.

Meanwhile, CZ acknowledged his business in Kyrgyzstan, claiming that he introduced President Zhaparov to X, the social media site.

“I officially and unofficially advise a few governments on their crypto regulatory frameworks and blockchain solutions for gov efficiency, expanding blockchain to more than trading. I find this work extremely meaningful,” CZ claimed via social media.

Although CZ’s connection with Kyrgyzstan’s new A7A5 stablecoin is not fully known, it would align with his recent alleged Trump dealings.

Zhaparov’s statement claimed that the Binance founder will provide infrastructural, technological support, technical expertise, and consulting services on crypto and blockchain technologies.

Also, the president went on to state that this agreement with CZ will strengthen Kyrgyzstan’s standing in the growing Web3 environment. The long-term plan is to help create new opportunities for Kyrgyz businesses and society as a whole.

Presumably, this will involve some cooperation with Russia, as A7A5’s press release mentions “a new class of digital assets tied to the Russian economy.” This stablecoin is bucking significant tradition by aligning with the ruble instead of the dollar.

However, this is part of its strategy to focus on emerging markets. This novel experiment could demonstrate new market opportunities and challenge the dominance of USD-pegged stablecoins in the region.

Ethena Labs is officially closing its German branch and EU operations after a previous MiCA application rejection. For the past month, the firm has been preparing to withdraw from this market.

Although the exit was anticipated, ENA reacted notably, with the altcoin falling over 7% after today’s announcement.

Ethena Labs Failed MiCA Effort

Ethena Labs has been facing continued regulatory difficulties in Europe. In late March, German authorities rejected Ethena’s application for MiCA compliance.

At the time, the firm suggested that this was a minor setback and that it would focus on other markets. Today, it announced that its German branch is winding down altogether.

“We have agreed with BaFin to wind down all activities of Ethena GmbH and will no longer be pursuing the MiCAR authorization in Germany. All whitelisted… users previously interacting with Ethena GmbH have at their request been onboarded with Ethena (BVI) Limited instead. As a result, Ethena GmbH no longer has any direct customers,” it claimed.

The statement further claimed that Ethena GmbH, the German branch, “has not conducted any mint or redeem activity” since the regulators’ MiCA ruling.

Specifically, regulators banned all sales of the USDe stablecoin, putting serious restrictions on the firm. In other words, this outcome is fairly expected. Ethena (BVI) Limited has taken over the German branch’s users.

The network’s governance token, ENA, has seen notable price swings around its MiCA efforts. In Early March, when Ethena Labs was reportedly on track to receive regulatory approval, ENA broke out of multi-month lows and nearly reached $2.5 billion in mark cap.

However, since the rejection, ENA saw continued bearish pressure, which was exacerbated by the macroeconomic conditions across the market. Today’s announcement drove further decline.

MiCA, the European Union’s new stablecoin regulations, have presented difficulties for several firms besides Ethena. For example, Tether’s stablecoins were delisted from EU exchanges when MiCA took effect, prompting serious changes to its business.

Several other issuers have been racing to fill the gap left by these firms by achieving compliance. Most recently, major centralized exchanges such as Crypto.com and OKX have achieved the license, further strengthening their grasp over the EU market.
