Cardano (ADA) has recently struggled to breach a key barrier despite the support of large investors and improving market conditions.
The price of ADA remains below critical resistance levels, but with whales accumulating significant amounts of ADA, the altcoin’s breakout potential seems promising. If market conditions continue to improve, Cardano could see a positive shift in price momentum.
Cardano Whales Are Optimistic
Whale activity was strong in April, with addresses holding between 10 million and 100 million ADA and purchasing over 420 million ADA, worth approximately $289 million, bringing their holdings to 12.89 billion ADA from 12.47 billion ADA. This consistent accumulation by the largest holders of Cardano is a significant indicator of confidence.
Whales play a key role in ADA’s potential price movements, and their continued accumulation suggests that they believe in the asset’s long-term value. The large-scale accumulation could help shift market sentiment in a positive direction. As the most influential ADA holders increase their positions, the likelihood of a price surge rises.
Cardano’s overall momentum is showing signs of improvement, especially with technical indicators such as the Relative Strength Index (RSI). Currently, the RSI is at a near two-month high and sits in the positive zone above the neutral mark of 50.0. This indicates growing bullish momentum, driven by both the accumulation of ADA by whales and broader market conditions.
Improving market conditions and the strong RSI reading suggest that Cardano’s price may soon experience a significant rise. This technical strength, supported by whale activity, sets the stage for ADA to break through its key resistance levels, potentially leading to more widespread adoption and price appreciation.
Cardano’s price is currently at $0.69, just below the support of $0.70, which it had been holding earlier this week. The altcoin fell slightly after failing to breach the $0.74 resistance level. The inability to break past this level has kept ADA trapped in a tight range, though a breakthrough remains possible if the market continues to improve.
The $0.74 resistance has been a key barrier for ADA for over five weeks. However, with whales continuing to accumulate and macro indicators showing strength, Cardano could soon push past $0.74 and potentially rise toward $0.80. A successful breach of $0.74 would signal the beginning of a more sustained bullish trend.
If ADA fails to maintain its position above the $0.66 support, confidence among whales could start to wane. A further decline toward $0.60 would hurt the bullish outlook, potentially leading to a deeper correction. Such a move would invalidate the positive sentiment and delay any potential for ADA to reach higher price targets.
The state of security across the crypto and blockchain space has changed significantly in the past few months. Traditional smart contracts exploited or brute force attacks on blockchain networks are being superseded by crypto scams like rug pulls and pump-and-dump schemes.
BeInCrypto spoke with a spokesperson from security firm CertiK to understand how blockchain and security threats are evolving and how projects and users can safeguard against future exploits.
Social Media Hacks on the Rise
Over the past few months, the crypto community has seen a rise in social media-related hacks. This increasingly common tendency has pivoted away from the orchestration of more sophisticated blockchain attacks that have traditionally plagued headlines.
Whereas smart contract exploits or blockchain hacks require more knowledge, hackers have found an easier avenue by targeting social media accounts instead.
X (formerly Twitter) has quickly become the social media platform of choice among Web3 hackers.
Social Media is Now a Prime Target for Web3 Hackers
After US President Donald Trump launched his meme coin only two days before assuming office, hackers began to take advantage of the hype to hack high-profile X accounts and convince followers to invest in scam meme coins.
Last month, anonymous hackers took over the X account of the former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad to promote MALAYSIA, a fake meme coin promoted as the country’s official cryptocurrency.
The post was removed within an hour, but the damage was done. Analysis shows that these hackers were probably related to the infamous Russian Evil Corp and that they stole $1.7 million in this rug pull.
The MALAYSIA token scam happened only two weeks after hackers exploited former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro’s social media account. In that instance, scammers promoted the BRAZIL token, which rose over 10,000% in minutes, netting the scammers over $1.3 million.
These scams have also affected technological companies.
Attacks on Tech Companies
In December, AI research and development company Anthropic also saw its X account hacked. A fraudulent post claimed that a fake token called CLAUDE would incentivize AI and crypto projects and included a wallet address for investors.
Attackers managed to collect around $100,000 from speculative investors.
These situations also highlight a broader issue of weak account security on social media platforms. As a result, even prominent individuals are susceptible to security breaches that directly affect the crypto community.
TRUMP Meme Coin Launch Was a Catalyst For Crypto Scams
“Now is the time to talk about the fact that large-scale political coins cross a further line: they are not just sources of fun, whose harm is at most contained to mistakes made by voluntary participants, they are vehicles for unlimited political bribery, including from foreign nation states,” Buterin claimed.
Buterin highlighted the tokens’ role in enabling scams and political corruption in crypto and blamed a regulatory loophole former SEC Chair Gary Gensler created for allowing bad actors to exploit governance tokens.
However, these crypto scams extend beyond political themes.
Growth of Social Engineering Exploits
A week after Buterin cautioned against political meme coins, a Coinbase user lost $11.5 million after falling victim to a social engineering scam on Base.
Crypto sleuth ZackXBT uncovered the exploit, pointing out that this incident is part of a growing trend, with multiple Coinbase users suffering similar losses. He also estimates that crypto scams of this nature have drained at least $150 million from Coinbase customers.
“Coinbase has a serious fraud problem. I just uncovered many more recent thefts from Coinbase users. The $150 million stolen from Coinbase users in a year is just from thefts I independently confirmed. So it’s more than likely multiples of this number,” ZachXBT stated.
In social engineering scams, attackers use phishing emails, spoofed calls, and other deceptive tactics to trick victims into revealing private keys or login credentials. Once they gain access, they drain wallets, move funds, and take control of accounts.
For CertiK, these situations stipulate the need for stronger security measures.
Addressing these security challenges is crucial as new crypto projects increase exponentially.
Prioritizing Proactive Security in a Rapidly Growing Industry
The Web3 sector is experiencing consistent growth, marked by a surge in new crypto project launches. This innovative momentum is expected to continue, but it’s also fueling security concerns.
Notably, the increasing rate of scams and hacks in the first three months of 2025 makes it clear that security efforts are struggling to keep up with innovation.
A study by Precedence Research estimates the Web 3.0 market will expand from USD 4.62 billion in 2025 to approximately USD 99.75 billion by 2034, with a projected compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 41.18% during that period.

Yet, CertiK believes that project developers are pushing security considerations toward the end of the priority list.
As the Web3 ecosystem evolves, a proactive and adaptive security approach is critical. Prioritizing both blockchain integrity and social media vigilance will be essential for safeguarding the growing Web3 ecosystem.
The battle against these exploits requires a future where security is not an afterthought but a foundational pillar of every Web3 project and user interaction.
President Trump has once again called on Fed Chair Jerome Powell to cut interest rates, but the crypto community doesn’t seem interested anymore. Rate cuts seem as unlikely as ever, but the market has new bullish narratives.
Between a US-China trade deal, new investors, and technological advancements, recession fears have apparently left the crypto market.
Trump Keeps Pushing for Rate Cuts
When Trump’s tariffs threatened to disrupt the global economy, the crypto industry pinned its hopes on one bullish narrative: cuts for US interest rates.
The US President repeatedly harangued Jerome Powell, even threatening to fire him before relenting, yet Powell and his allies were firm: this was not happening. Trump has continued asking, appealing to Powell again today:
No Inflation, and Prices of Gasoline, Energy, Groceries, and practically everything else, are DOWN!!! THE FED must lower the RATE, like Europe and China have done. What is wrong with Too Late Powell? Not fair to America, which is ready to blossom? Just let it all happen, it will…

Throughout these proceedings, the crypto industry repeatedly urged more rate cuts, claiming that the “money printer” would stave off economic collapse.
Trump asked Powell to cut interest rates recently, but the latest FOMC meeting reaffirmed the status quo. How did crypto react to this? So far, it seems like it finally got the memo.
Crypto-affiliated prediction markets like Kalshi have repeatedly posted optimistic odds of Trump’s rate cuts compared to TradFi assessors like the CME Group. For example, the last time Trump made this request, Kalshi predicted that three cuts would happen this year.
At the time, this would have signified a cut at half of the year’s remaining FOMC meetings. In March, Kalshi even expected four! The CME, on the other hand, put over 98% odds on no cuts in May.
Indeed, this scenario is what happened, and Kalshi has since lowered its expectations. It currently anticipates only two cuts for the rest of the year, much more in line with other firms’ predictions.

What can crypto conclude from this? The community has apparently internalized that Trump can’t force cuts to interest rates. However, things are going well regardless.
All that is to say, Trump’s proposed interest rate cuts were just one way to potentially boost crypto investment. If Powell spontaneously changed his mind today, it’d be bullish, but as of now, the crypto market is slowly moving away from these macroeconomic drivers.
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is preparing to review several internal staff directives that influence how the regulator oversees the crypto industry.
This move aligns with President Donald Trump’s latest Executive Order on deregulation. It also follows guidance from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), currently led by Elon Musk.
SEC to Review Howey Test and Investment Contract Framework Application
On April 5, Acting SEC Chair Mark Uyeda noted that the upcoming reviews could result in changes or full withdrawal of some statements. He emphasized that the agency’s objective is to ensure its guidance remains relevant and consistent with its current priorities.
“The purpose of this review is to identify staff statements that should be modified or rescinded consistent with current agency priorities,” the Commission stated.
One of the main targets of this reassessment is the SEC’s current framework for determining whether a digital asset qualifies as a security. This guideline relies heavily on the decades-old Howey Test.
It also reflects the views of former SEC official Bill Hinman, shared during a 2018 speech. Hinman argued that the degree of decentralization behind a token should matter more than how it was originally sold.
This development may pave the way for a dramatic shift in how crypto assets are evaluated. Crypto analyst Jesus Martinez believes that removing or revising the current framework could be a major turning point for retail investors in the US.
He argues that regulatory constraints have long blocked everyday users from participating in projects like launchpads and node operations. These platforms are often only accessible to those with foreign identification or institutional workarounds.
Martinez says that dismantling such outdated rules could help level the playing field for American investors.
“It’s been hurting retail for the longest time & we need to prioritize American citizens, this is a big step in that direction,” Martinez concluded.
Beyond the Howey-based framework, the SEC is also reviewing several other documents. One of these is a bulletin outlining regulatory concerns around mutual funds investing in Bitcoin futures.
The financial regulator is also reviewing a risk alert from the Division of Examination. This alert warns that digital assets pose unique investor risks, including regulatory uncertainty and cybersecurity threats.
Additionally, the Commission is reassessing whether state-chartered banks and trust companies can act as qualified custodians under the SEC’s Custody Rule.
The crypto community believes the SEC’s broad reassessment points to a shift toward a more modern and flexible regulatory approach. This shift could reshape the crypto landscape for both retail investors and institutional participants
